| | The theory of Persuasive Learning Objects and Technologies (PLOT) is now oficially launched as a new area of teaching at Aalborg University and for research cooperation between universities and private institutions and researchers. PLOT is offered as a new cutting-edge theme of CAPTOLOGY, or Persuasive Design, which is a research area at the University of Aalborg.
PLOT was first introduced and discussed at the Mini-Conference on Persuasive Database Technology and Applications: Emdros for Learning and Linguistic Analysis held at Aalborg University * Copenhagen Institute of Technology on March 30 2009, and the lectures are presented here for the first time. Following the conference we form a reseach cooperation between researchers at Aalborg and Leeds - and we would like to persuade other reserchers to join us! Don't hesitate to contact Nicolai Winther-Nielsen. We have started with a project on exhibiting the world of the Hebrew Bible (A PLOT project for the Parker exhibition and Biblical archaeology). We hope to offer projects on the design of syntax, semantics and pragmatics interface for the Hebrew Bible of special significance for teaching and translation.

|
| | | 2 | Associate Professor Nicolai Winther-Nielsen, CLST and Aalborg University: Persusasive Learning Objects and Technology (PLOT) - new tools and tasks for analysis of ancient religious texts: tools for computational corpus linguistics to be used for text-based learning and research; proposes the field of PLOT and the individual PLOTTERs.

| | | 3 | Assistant Professor Ulrik Sandborg-Petersen, University of Aalborg, The potential of Emdros for research and learning: inventor of Emdros for corpus analysis, and describes the system in PhD (cf www.emdros.org); has developed several tools for language analysis suggests new ways to use and display data from Emdros. [unfortunately the quality of the screencast was too poor; only Power Points provided]

| | | 4 | Director, Chief Engeneer Chris Wilson, Cambridge ( http://www.aptivate.org/Team.html ), LEX: programming, language analysis and translation goals: programming of the Role-Lexical Module as a tool to map from Biblical Hebrew syntax to semantics; explains use of the Emdros database to provide tools for corpus analysis in Role and Reference Grammar: the goal of his LEX project is to assist in storing data for language projects and develop translation technology [presents paper accepted for publication in HIPHIL]

| | | 5 | IT Consultant Claus Tøndering, Lyngby (www.ezer.dk), An Emdros Quiz Generator - 3ET as a new tool for language learning: develops 3ET as a tool for language learning based on texts in Hebrew, Greek and other languages stored in the Emdros database; it can be used as a stand-alone tool or for Moodle-based e-learning (cf. http://3bm.dk/index.php?p=82) [studiorecording]

| | | 6 | Reader Elizabeth Guest, School of Computing, Leeds Metropolitan Uniersity, Role and Reference Grammar (RRG), Cataloguing, and the semantic web: present ways of using Role and Reference Grammar for parsing long, complex, and ungrammatical sentences from texts written by students; ways this can be used together with library cataloguing techniques; work on a semantics framework to be used in a number of applications.

| | | 7 | Associate Professor John Mortensen, RUC, Word Classification: PCA Analysis on a corpus: Principal Component Analysis (PCA) can be used as a tool to analyze texts based on conceptual classification of words; New Year's speeches by royal monarchs and ministers of state in Denmark were analyzed to determine the conceptual differences and thematic content of such speeches on a statistical basis.
